HOW TO REACH US
BY SEA
This is recommended for summer months and when seas aren’t rough. Reservations however must be made largely in advance!! Four to 6 people cabins are recommended for families, on ships that go directly to Vulcano. Convenient connections to the Eolie Islands are assured with hydrofoils (6 hours from Naples) and daily ferries from MESSINA , MILAZZO, NAPLES AND REGGIO CALABRIA. During the summer, transport from MESSINA, MILAZZO, NAPLES and REGGIO CALABRIA is intensified. In addition, a hydrofoil service goes from PALERMO.
In particular:
• Hydrofoils and ferries from MILAZZO run several times a day
• Ferries depart from NAPLES three times a week from the Beverello pier and during the summer, hydrofoils depart from Mergellina every day.
To make ferry reservations you must contact Siremar.Reservations for hydrofoils for trips from Milazzo to the Isole Eolie can be made by contacting Siremar or by contacting Snav for longer trips (from Naples, Messina, Palermo, Reggio Calabria, etc.).
BY AIR
Air travel is to be co-ordinated with land and sea travel. It is quick but expensive for big families.
Air travel to CATANIA, NAPLES, PALERMO and Reggio Calabria is guaranteed from ’s most important cities:
• For CATANIA with departure from Bari, Bologna, Florence, Milan, Naples, Rome, Turin and Verona . At Catania Airport car rental services are available which guarantee easy travel to Milazzo port for boats to the islands.
• For NAPLES with departures from Bologna, Florence, Genoa, Milan, Olbia, Rome, Turin, Venice and Verona .
• For PALERMO with departures from Bologna, Cagliari, Florence, Lampedusa, Milan, Naples, Pantelleria, Pescara, Pisa, Rome and Verona .
• For REGGIO CALABRIAwith departures from Milan and Rome. Timetables and costs can be obtained from travel agencies.
BY TRAIN
Sleeping cars are the most practical and economical options (for those who sleep!) for families.
Trains for MILAZZO depart from MESSINA, MILAN, BOLOGNA, NAPLES, ROME , TURIN AND VENICE.
Again, timetables and costs can be requested at travel agencies. For example there is a train (#1921) that departs at night-time from the Tiburtina Station in Rome and from Milazzo there is a train that departs at about the same time (#1924) to return to Rome . Taxis as well as buses can be taken from the Port of Milazzo to the Milazzo Station and vice versa.
BY CAR
This is not recommended during summer months (for the long lines to get on ferries) but the most practical and economical for those with lots of baggage.
Ferries can be taken from Villa S. Giovanni (Reggio Calabria) to Milazzo. Cars can also be left in garages in Milazzo, and the journey can continue on hydrofoils. One can also travel by car from Naples and go directly to the Islands.
